This short semester course will enhance your ability to apply data analysis in a business environment. 
So, what is data analysis?

In simple words, data analysis is the process of collecting and organizing data in order to draw helpful conclusions from it. The process of data analysis uses analytical and logical reasoning to gain information from the data.

You’ll analyse the strategic importance of business data analytical techniques used in a modern business environment. You’ll analyse data arising from a variety of channels such as marketing, digital marketing, sales, human resources (HR), customer relationship management (CRM), finance and research and development (R&D).

The main purpose of data analysis is to find meaning in data so that the derived knowledge can be used to make informed decisions. Businesses today need individuals capable to use reflective thinking techniques to critically evaluate business problems and develop viable problem solving and decision making.

Module Learning Outcomes

Trying to find the cause of a problem in your business? Data can help, but sometimes knowing how to interpret and explore it can be intimidating. 

On successful completion of this module, you will be able to:

  • Evaluate and apply appropriate software tools and instruments required for business data analysis
  • Demonstrate the use of quantitative and statistical methodologies applied in prediction and forecasting
  • Visualize and communicate data analysis with charts and graphs
  • Demonstrate how data is created, stored, accessed, and how a business organization works with data

How is data analysis used in business?

Data analytics is used in business to help organizations make better business decisions. Whether it’s market research, product research, positioning, customer reviews, segment analysis, or any other issue for which data exists, analysing data will provide insights that organizations need in order to make the right choices.

Data-driven businesses make decisions based on data, which means they can be more confident that their actions will bring success since there is data to support them.

Our Business Data Analysis course will take you through why data analysis is important for businesses and how to make data analysis more efficient for your organisation.

What to expect

The module will be delivered through a series of lectures, the focus of which will be on methods that encourage active learner engagement, critical thinking, and practical application.

You will be required to actively participate through class debates and contribute to small group discussions that will ensure continuous learning and review.

Skills for the labour market

The focus of this course is to provide a skills-focused response to employment issues arising from the COVID-19 crisis and to increase the employment prospects of our graduates.

You’ll be able to make an effective contribution to improving business performance and competitiveness by being able to analyse data. By taking up this course, you will:

  • Gain a specialised knowledge in business data analysis
  • Be able to analyse the strategic importance of business data analytical techniques used in a modern business environment 
  • Contribute effectively to your organisation

Course Structure

The Business Data Analysis module is part of our Bachelor of Business Level 7 degree.

This module is an 18-week programme and it’s delivered part time in a flexible manner through online learning to allow people to gain important skills without taking a considerable period away from the labour market and family life.

Classes will run once per week for 2 hours. 

Entry requirements

Applicants under 23 need a Leaving Certificate with 5 passes or a QQI Level 6 equivalent. 

Applicants over the age of 23 can apply on the basis of age and experience. Galway Business School also has an active RPL policy.

Business data analysis certification will boost your qualifications to work for a range of job positions across many industries. This certificate is also a great way to progress in your career as it can help you earn salary increments and job promotions within your organisation.
You can continue your studies through our Bachelor of Business programme where you would be exempted from this module within the degree course.
