Who are our part-time study programmes for?

If you’re the kind of student who enjoys being challenged – intellectually, socially and personally – then you’ll enjoy our programmes.

Part-time programmes prove popular with students both within Ireland and abroad. GBS offers alternative routes to success through education, for example, for those who entered employment on completing their second-level education. Or for those looking to move to Ireland from other EU countries and are interested in pursuing a part-time education during their relocation as many of our international students have chosen to do.

Whether you are returning to education, seeking to advance your qualifications or career, or simply sharpening your skills in a specific area of interest, there are many options to choose from here in Galway Business School.

Our certificate programmes and business degree programmes are equally practical and academic, covering a broad range of business modules including economics, marketing, organisational behaviour, employee relations, human resources, and business strategy.

The part-time certificates programmes will give you the cutting-edge flare you need to guide you through the various challenges of business backgrounds that successful entrepreneurs face. For example, the aim of the Certificate in Business and Entrepreneurship is to analyse a range of business management issues and the challenges facing successful entrepreneurs.

We have many part-time students and they choose to study part-time for various reasons. Studying part-time is an excellent choice whether you’re looking to balance studying with your career or raising a family.

Benefits of studying part-time

A part-time degree is the ideal solution if you want to fit an undergraduate course or a QQI certificate programme around your home or work-life. All our courses are supported through our virtual learning environment tool which allows you to access materials, library resources and study support remotely and in your own time.

Our part-time programmes are structured to allow you to balance your studies with your work commitments, and we encourage you to make use of your workplace experiences and expertise as an integral part of your studies. Many employers are willing to sponsor employees to develop their potential through further study, whether through financial support or by providing time-off to study.

Tutors and lecturers will be familiar with students tackling part-time study and should be able to provide advice for how best to approach the course.

Returning to part-time study could be the best career decision you make.  Improving your job prospects and earning potential are just two reasons for doing a part-time course, but here are a few more:

  •  Gain a competitive advantage in the workplace by enhancing career prospects and employability
  • Enhance your existing credentials
  • Gain career-focused skills you can put into practice everyday
  • Up-skill in specific work-related areas
  • Maintain a healthy work/life balance by studying two evenings per week
  • Develop academically and professionally (enhanced skills such as communication, leadership skills, theoretical skills)
  • Personal development and career enhancement
  • Change of career – tired of your current work situation? Looking to change career paths? Completing a degree in your area of interest is a great way to start.

Our part-time business degree programmes are usually delivered during the evenings from 6 pm to 9.30 pm over two days per week. You’ll still be expected to meet deadlines, complete assignments and pass exams, regardless of your circumstances outside of university.

As a part-time student, you’ll also be able to participate in workshops and seminars delivered usually at the weekend by industry experts.
